ABOUT THE PROJECT:
When I wanted to make a smaller version of my installations it was important that it worked at that scale and was not merely a model. In this context the piece is validated by its quasi scientific function. The dome has tiny holes drilled in it into which are inserted optic fibre filaments of varying diameters. These collect available light and create a star field in the dome. The building which has no base sits over a circular hole in the table. On the floor a tilted mirror suggests an astronomical telescope and reflects the interior of the dome towards the viewer. The piece reminds us that stars are below and above us.
